The TFV automatically shuts off the fuel supply during a fire by using a heat-sensitive, remote-acting capillary sensor. The sensor, often a capillary tube containing a liquid, heats up during a fire, causing the liquid to expand and release a vacuum. This release allows a spring-loaded mechanism to activate, which then closes the valve, stopping the flow of fuel to the appliance.
